Obama Comments on Controversial Play in Lions vs. Cowboys

Many Detroit Lions fans will argue that officials played a major role in the 24-20 Wild Card Game loss to the Dallas Cowboys. United States President Barack Obama agrees with the fans. President Obama weighed in Tuesday on the reversed fourth-quarter pass-interference call. “Obama watched the Lions game and told The Detroit News in a Tuesday interview he couldn't 'remember a circumstance in which a good call by one of the refs is argued about by an opposing player of the other team with his helmet off on the field, which in and of itself is supposed to be a penalty. The call is announced and then reversed without explanation. I haven't seen that before—so I will leave it up to the experts to make the judgment as to why that happened—but I can tell you if I was a Lions fan I'd be pretty aggravated.”

One of the biggest things the fans are mad about is that Dez Bryant ran onto the field protesting the call without a helmet on which is a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conductpenalty and persuaded the ref that he made a bad call and resulted in the ref picking up the flag giving no explanations.

No one knows if this call would have changed the score of the game but would have defiantly given the lions another set of downs to work with.

Rio 2016

Golf last was part of the Olympic Programme at the 1904 Games in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, when the United States and Canada were the only two competing countries. More than a century later, golf again will be played at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The proposed Olympic competition for both men and women is a 72-hole individual stroke play tournament, with the lowest score earning the gold medal. In case of a tie for either first, second or third place, a three-hole playoff will determine the medal winner(s).

Ty Votaw, who was the Executive Vice President of Communications and International Affairs and Vice President of the International Golf Federation, along with Peter Dawson, who was the president of the IGF and chief executive of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, were at the forefront of making golf once again an Olympic sport.” A new golf course will be built at Reserva de Marapendi in the Barra da Tijuca zone. Hanse Golf Course Design was chosen from eight tenders to build the course. After the games, the course will become a public facility and will be used to enhance golf's profile within Brazil and, according to the organising committee, this would represent "one of the most important Olympic Games legacies for sport development in the country.

Qualification will be based on world ranking as of 11 July 2016, with a total of 60 players qualifying in each of the men's and women's events. The top 15 players of each gender will qualify, with a limit of four golfers per country that can qualify this way.

Miss Conduct?

Should NFL players be able to swear?

Some say NO, but way to many say yes or don’t care if they do. This topic has been brought up many times though out professional sports and all they can do is fine the person. The many people that don’t care if professional athletes swear outweigh the number of people that do care making it impossible to put a serious penalty on the ‘crime’.

Was Tom Brady overreacting last Sunday? One fan says he was, screaming vulgar language on the sidelines taking out frustration. He saw it as Tom Brady overacting and not looking professional. The league has not yet charged Brady with any fines but see some on the way. Rex Ryan fined $100,000 for screaming '[Bleep] you!' at end of Jets-Pittsburgh Steelers game. Rex Ryan has been fined a total of $225,000 dollars just for langue alone.

The side that doesn’t care if athletes swear say they are grown men and women who can say whatever they want. “Restricting them or giving a harsher penalty would be ridiculous.” The broadcast net work already does enough to keep it off the air.

If you look at it from parents prospective it looks awful. Seeing the professionals a lot of kids look up too swearing on camera for the whole world to watch isn’t a good role model. I think athletes like Tom Brady do a good job hiding their emotions for these reasons.

Players Are Now Protected

Michele Roberts, the NBA players' union executive director has been making several changes in the NBA. Roberts is on the player’s side she says.
Roberts had grown up with little to nothing, coming from a family that would live day by day trying to survive. Like Roberts she knows that many of the players in the NBA had also had a rough background which makes her fight for them even harder.  Unlike many managers Roberts understands there wouldn’t be a league without these players, this is why she wants to abolish salary caps and have equal salaries.
“Roberts, hailed as one of the most brilliant trial lawyers in the United States, made history in July by being elected the first female union chief in major North American sports.” Roberts making history has given her a lot more respect in the sports world also from managers. One very important thing Roberts is trying to achieve is to never have a NBA lockout again. Keeping players and owners happy with the money they are receiving. "I can't understand why the [players' association] would be interested in suppressing salaries at the top if we know that as salaries at the top have grown, so have salaries at the bottom," she said. "If that's the case, I contend that there is no reason in the world why the union should embrace salary caps or any effort to place a barrier on the amount of money that marquee players can make."

While Commissioner Adam Silver has proposed increasing the NBA draft age limit to 20, Roberts rejected the philosophy underpinning an age limit. "It doesn't make sense to me that you're suddenly eligible and ready to make money when you're 20, but not when you're 19, not when you're 18," she said. "I suspect that the association will agree that this is not going to be one that they will agree to easily. There is no other profession that says that you're old enough to die but not old enough to work."

So Close But So Far
The Norton high golf team has a roster of 12 kids varying from freshman to seniors. For the last two years the team has finished with a losing recorded pushing them out of state sectionals. In order to get to states you need to win at least 50% of your schedule. The past two years we have finished 7 and 11 and 8 and 10. Both coming just short of making it.

With just two more weeks in the regular season the team is at 7 and 4. The team went on a 6 game winning streak after losing the first match of the season. Making states this year is definitely  in the running, only needing to win two more matches with 5 matches left in the season. If everyone keeps playing like we all have been ,winning TVL’s is always an option.  The top four lowest scoring averages go to TVL’S and compete in an 18 hole match. With Cody Sweeny leading the scoring averages then a close tie between the next three guys.   The next match the Norton Lancers have is Tuesday 10/7 against Medway at TPC Boston. The prediction for this match is very close, when the Lancers played Medway at their home course we lost by 19 strokes, Medway coming to TPC could be a whole different score.

                                    Team USA!

This Friday the Ryder Cup starts off better than ever. With one of the best teams they have had in a long time. “The Ryder Cup is a biennial men's golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is contested every two years with the venue alternating between courses in the USA and Europe. The Ryder Cup is named after the English businessman Samuel Ryder who donated the trophy.”

Team USA is consisted of Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Jim Furyk, Zach Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Hunter Mahan, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Web Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, and Bubba Watson. The captain for Team USA is Tom Watson a retired professional golfer who has won many tournaments in his life. The Ryder Cup is being played in Perthshire, Scotland. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus a legend of the golf world.

The European team has won the Ryder Cup the past two time, Rory McIlroy a European player says they’re going for three in a row but I believe that Team USA has a more solid team all the way through and not just two top players.

Rickie Fowler a 25 year old on the USA team shaved his head with “USA” on the side of it in honor of playing for the US. This bold action got Rickie a lot of attention in this week’s media.

                                                                        "Playoffs?”

By: Johnmichael Lee

Many sport analysis are already talking about playoffs, even though we are only approaching week three in the NLF. Who do you think is going to make it? Many guys aren't just looking at the records they have started with but the talent and potential on the team. A rising team in the horizon is The Buffalo Bills, some might doubt this because they haven't made the playoffs sense 1999 and that was sneaking in by the wildcard. Herm Edwards Has predicted that the Bills will be breaking the drought this year. EJ Manuel quarter back for the Bills says they are looking better than ever and are definitely in the running for the playoffs. They are matching up with the Chargers this Sunday at home and are looking for another victory to advance to (3-0)
